"Christofle. "natural Footprint". Containing A Lily Pad."
In 1880 Christofle invented a new decoration process exhibited at the Metal Arts Fair organized by the Central Union of Fine Arts Applied to Industry. Natural leaves are printed by hammering directly onto the metal. This taste for naturalistic trompe l'oeil taken to the extreme marks the fundamental lines of Art Nouveau. The decoration thus obtained faithfully reproduces the delicacy of the shapes and the veins and makes each piece a unique object.
