Prosper Morey (1805-1886) Ancient scene in front of the Acropolis of Athens. Watercolor on paper, signature lower right “Pr Morey 1840” Good condition. dimensions: with frame: 40 x 50 cm at sight: 21.7 x 31.7 cm French architect born in Nancy, student at the National School of Fine Arts, he notably followed the courses of Achille Leclère, in the 'workshop from which he met Eugène Viollet-le-Duc for the first time. His school career was brilliant: he won the Grand Prix de Rome in 1831 for a thermal water establishment project. He stayed at the Villa Medici from 1832 to 1837. In 1838, he was attached as an architect to the archaeological mission in Greece and Asia Minor led under the direction of Raoul Rochette. In 1846 he participated in the creation of the French School of Athens.
