Pierre-Marie Beyle (1838-1902) born in Lyon, comes to Paris to study there. First an independent illustrator, he presented for the first time a work at the 1867 Salon “Une Bohémienne”. From 1877 to 1878 he exhibited a series of paintings made in Algeria. The Parisian painter then developed a passion for Normandy, where his main subjects were the Dieppe coast and the life of fishermen. Beyle participated in the Universal Exhibition of 1900 and will still send works to the Salon until 1902.
