Bust Of Salvator Rosa By émile Louis Picault (1833-1915)

Bronze with brown patina representing the 17th century Italian painter Salvator Rosa.
Represented in the manner of a gentleman wearing hat and sword, his bust is decoratedwithpalette and brushes,the painter's attributes, skillfully positioned on the pidouche. But Salvatore Rosa is also recognized as a satirical poet, actor, musician and engraver.
With a rebellious character, frequentingNapolitan bandits in his youth, Rosa is remembered for his strange landscapes with invasive vegetation, his representations of imaginary mountains and dark caves, his Marines representing ports in ruins. Rosa was among the first to paint “romantic” landscapes, with a predilection for picturesque scenes. It is said of him that he invented “romantic-impressionist” painting.

This bust rests on a movable red marble base on which is placed a bronze plaque in the name of Salvator Rosa.
