Object description :

"1900 Oil Painting On Panel - French Italian Landscape Painter"
View of Auribeau-sur-Siagne - Signed lower left Dimensions: 45 x 37 cm Landscape painter who took many ideas from the landscapes of the Côte d'Azur Antonio Dao Geletta was born in 1901 in Elva. Country which, between the middle of the 19th century and before the First World War, had a thousand inhabitants, almost like Roccabruna or Villar a few years ago. Elva today a hundred at the registry office, a few dozen effective, especially in winter. We know Elva for its naturalistic and cultural aspects (the excursions to the hill of Sampeyre, the marmots, the eagles, the bearded vulture, the chamois, the deer and the roe deer, the edelweiss; the frescoes of Pietro da Saluzzo and Hans Clemer in the parish church of Santa Maria; the Pels museum, the house of the sundial ...). Basically, a beautiful place to admire, yesterday a social context of respect, in which man had known how to face the difficulties presented by nature, largely overcoming them. In 1922, at the age of 21, he emigrated to France, to Cannes, where a community of Elfesi emigrants already existed, this emigration first seasonal and then definitive. In Cannes, he marries a Compasian, Rita, who will give him a son, Gabriele, and who will be his model in many works. In France Antonio participates in the artistic life of France and the Côte d'Azur with numerous exhibitions, traces of which can be found in the many cuttings that he first collected and that his son Gabrile and his daughter-in-law Maria Teresa have kept. The paintings exhibited here are those that have visited the galleries of these. At least those which for Antonio had an emotional value and which served almost as a signature, like the two self-portraits exhibited near the entrance. The others were gradually sold and still others were “loaned” to distant relatives, who never returned them.
