Bargueno 17th Century

Important travel cabinet known as "Bargueno" from Spain early 17th century rare piece of furniture resting on its original base with arches forming H-shaped trestles composed of lateral runners surmounted by molded columns joined by a spacer in arcatures. Large safe opening with a flap with hasp lock adorned with a beautiful wrought iron entrance revealing an interior decorated with a series of architectural drawers, on the sides its panels are mounted with visible dovetail, the transport of this safe is ensured by its wrought iron side handles animated with fantastic animal heads at each end. Robustly built, this bargueno has the appearance of a solid and sober portable chest, it is a small fortress with locks and fittings that house, like the cabinets: small drawers of various sizes and lockers forming a tabernacle and theater architectured with balustrades and small columns in light wood. Good condition, dimensions: 1.35 m high X 1.02 m long X 40 cm deep (98 cm open) / Chest: 62 X102 X 40 cm / Base: 74 X 75 X 46 cm. The chest or bargueno, experienced a considerable boom with the colonial expansion of Spain in the 16th century. It is the most practical piece of furniture for the conquistador or the missionary, it carries administrative, diplomatic or personal effects in expeditions to the Spanish conquests to the new world in the Americas, India, China and the Crusades. It arouses such enthusiasm that in Spain itself it becomes the obligatory piece of furniture exhibited in all the wealth of large residences.
