David Luders (Hamburg 1710-Moscow 1759)

David Luders is a portrait painter of German origin. He began his studies in Hamburg and continued in Paris under the direction of Lemoyne. He worked in France, England (1748-1755), Italy then in Russia where he died there in 1759. Our portrait painted in 1745, before his departure for England three years later, is possibly the portrait of the young woman. princess, last daughter of Louis XV, Thérèse known as Madame last. The young girl is shown seated on a red velvet cousin. We find the influences of French painting of Mignard, Gobert and Lemoyne in particular for the latter, the legs and feet of the young girl.

Luders' canvases are very rare for sale, they can be admired in some museums, notably the Hermitage in Saint Petersburg but are especially present in large English collections, a country where he spent seven years of his life as an artist. , and Russian.
