This very fine watercolor has been attributed to Jules Coignet (1798-1860) by his former owners. It's an interesting suggestion even if there are no historical proofs to assert this attribution.
In any case it has been painted at this time by a very good hand.

It's also an interesting view of Villefranche in the 19th century. The fortified building in the foreground no longer exists today.
