The poem describes the habits of Tam, a farmer who often got drunk with his friends in a pub in the Scottish town of Ayr, and his reckless ways especially towards his wife.
The collection illustrated by John Faed is dated 1855 and consists of 6 engravings signed by authoritative engravers of the time and some narrations taken from the poem.
