On the back, we find an inscription that identifies the character: Frédéric Harvey Marquis de Bristol. 1764

The Marquis wears a sumptuous dress of high nobility, a wig, a refined lace collar.
On the (recent) frame, we find a plaque which attributes the painting to an important English painter: the attribution of the painting is under study.
