A beautiful melancholy atmosphere for this painting by Aix artist Edouard Ducros.
It is an oil on cardboard on which the artist has left, faithful to his technique, reserves of paintings, which gives it a particular vibration and sensitivity. Which perfectly captures the atmosphere of Martigues at the time, the famous Venice of Provence.
In its original condition, cleaning can be considered, it is framed in a pretty gilded wood frame (which has a few minor gaps in gilding), it measures 52 cm by 59 cm and 38 cm by 46 without the frame. It is signed and dated 1920 lower left.
A student of Julien Gustave Gagliardini and Louis Gautier, he exhibited in various salons including the Paris Salon, and at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1911 to 1935. In the provinces, he was awarded a prize in Versailles, Lyon and Aix where he obtained a diploma in 'honor.
Impressionist, he is the founder of the Society of Friends of the Arts of Aix-en-Provence where he meets Paul Cézanne in the company of whom he painted the Montagne Sainte Victoire.
His works are kept at the Museums of Aix, Montpellier de Digne and Béziers. His painting Le Grand canal de Martigues was acquired by the city of Paris.
