Indian box used by the groom for the transport of jewelry and adornments that he gives as a gift to the bride on the wedding day.The very particular shape comes from the roofs of houses in the province of Kerala, on the Malabar coast in southwest India.
The wood used is portia, a hardwood from the teak family.
Entirely painted with interwoven patterns and stylized flowers, this sumptuous box is highlighted by flamed, cut and studded ornaments, a lock, a gilded brass handle. Inside is a small compartment, the lid of which is also decorated.
