"Table Algiers Orientalism Work Around 1830 Tribute Militaria Historical Document"
Orientalist work from the 1830s (1832 text reported on the back) which documents in particular the arrival of French troops in Algeria, during the first colonial expeditions to North Africa. The quality of the work, probably re-lined, is to be appreciated through the romanticism of the scene, presenting a tomb in the foreground, certainly that of the soldier Henry Thomas to whom the work is dedicated. The text on the back reports: "Under this stone rests Henry Thomas sergeant major of the voltigeurs of the battalion of the sixty-seventh regiment Bachelor of Letters, who died in Algiers in November 1832 in the twenty-fifth year of his age. Your cherished memory and the regret of the premature loss will always be in our hearts. " This period document gives the work a very particular feeling of homage as well as a certain historical dimension. Very good state of conservation. Dimensions without frame: 37 cm x 30 cm.
