Louis XVI Oval Reliquary In Golden Wood

Surprising 18th century reliquary in gilded wood.
it is oval in shape and carved on the frame of acanthus leaves and flowers enhanced with gilded wood garlands.
at the top it is garnished with a flowered basket.
it has kept its original gilding slightly faded and with some small gaps on the reliefs.
the two right garlands on the perimeter were redone in the 19th century.
This reliquary has surprisingly preserved its original crystal glass.
this large crystal glass is superb and it was not easy to render it in a photo:
slightly domed, very slightly opacified, with small defects, bubbles etc ...
the interior of this reliquary is lined with very many paperolles and 'a beautiful engraving enhanced with gouache representing the nativity: "nativitas christi" the golden and colored paperolles surround many relics of saints:
saint Fortunati
santa Felicie
sainte Claire
saint Vincent
saint Benedicte etc ...
each of these relics is composed of the name of the saint and of a bone fragment.
the oval composition of these paperolles is superb and has not been altered since the 18th century.
even the hook on the back is original.
a superb reliquary to hang, very decorated and very decorative.
