Horace Colmaire studied with Albert Roze in Amiens before joining the workshops of Léon Bonnat, Jules Adler and Raymond Allègre in Paris. He exhibited for the first time at the Salon of French artists in 1903. He was a member of the Salon of French artists from 1911 to 1940 and obtained several honorable mentions, a silver medal in 1913 and a gold medal in 1921 which placed him then standout. It is inspired by rural life in Picardy, particularly in the Doullens region, and mainly represents interior scenes from a modest background.
