The fine oil on canvas painting depicts a landscape of the Italian countryside with some ruins and wayfarers on the banks of a river.
The stylistic examination and the type of canvas used shows that the work was made in the eighteenth century by a painter probably of Nordic-European training active in Italy.Artistic historical studies are currently underway to outline the historical and cultural context of the artist.
The painting shows in the foreground a mirror of water towards which some personages approach. In the background, but of great scenic presence, are described some architectural ruins, among which you can see a pyramid, an element much loved by painters of the time.In addition to the path taken by the characters, in the distance you can see a town with turreted walls and even beyond the landscape fades on the horizon illuminated by the glow of a warm light, characteristic of the sunset. The clear sky is marked by some fluffy cloud of good weather that is held in pink and grey.
This painting, in which you can observe the hand of the painter who with short touches and quick brushstrokes has been able to give vivacity and freshness to the scene depicted, is overall a valuable work with strong decorative connotations. The pleasant subject and the small size, although not small, make the work easy to fit into any official or private context.
The work, in good condition, has been recently subjected to a cleaning intervention and aesthetic representation through the removal of yellowed paint, the retouching of some small portions of painting and the final transparent finish.
