"Pair Of Candelabra After A Model By Pierre Gouthière End Of The 18th Century"
Beautiful pair of two-light candelabra in gilded bronze and white Carrara marble. The amphora-shaped vase supported by an Athenian base, the three pillars terminate at the base with deer hooves and on the upper part of satyrs' heads with rams horns. Inside is a serpant wrapped around a column. The triangular base with curved sides is decorated with water leaves and a pearl motif supported by a white marble plinth. The vase is topped with a bouquet of gilt bronze roses, the flowers serving as a candle holder. Good condition. (some small gaps in the foliage, two small chips on the edge of one of the vases, original gilding with very small wear) Height: 43.5 cm Width: 27.5 cm Work from the end of the 18th century of after a model by Pierre Gouthière and a drawing by Jacques Bélanger. Pierre Gouthière (1732-1813) appointed in 1767 "the only ordinary gilder of the king's menu pleasures" Jacques Bélanger (1744-1818) his work as an architect is part of the current of classical revival and of the taste for the antique which marks the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century.
