Established between 1945 and 1960 in Vallauris, capital of artistic ceramics and pottery on the Côte d'Azur, Maurel quickly distinguished himself from local production by his precision, his technicality, his chromatic sensitivity and his imaginative iconography. He then settled not far from Nice, in Tourettes-sur-Loup, where he shaped until 1974.
