Partially chiseled bronze.
These andirons represent two putti on a naturalistic foliage arch. One of the putti carries a sledgehammer, the other puts his hand on the head of a snake. The representation of the putti is similar to the bas reliefs of the time, detailed but acromegalic ends, non-existent neck, very interpreted serpent. These andirons are a rare document because they are usually made of wrought iron. They imitated a high-quality model that was rare in bronze at the time. A flange fixing for the log holder was welded in the 19th century, the original fixing can still be seen by large tapped holes on the front.
