Couple of faun and maenad, terracotta in the manner of Clodion - late 18th or early 19th century
Terracotta bas-relief showing a faun and a dancing and feasting maenad, accompanied by a putto. It presents a very fine work of modeling probably on the basis of a molded decor, which distinguishes it from later reliefs, or from generally mediocre copies, for example those from Sanson's workshop.
Some patina restorations. Some protruding parts have been scratched or eroded. Mark of filled hanger holes on top of panel.
Bears a Clodion signature.
