"Qajar Box Early 19th Century"
This oblong box is certainly a Qajar pencil case from the beginning of the 19th century. Manufactured in papier-mâché, then painted and lacquered, cover with cover by casing. The cover is decorated with a scene of a central figure surrounded by dignitaries, probably the Persian ruler Fath Ali Chah of the Qajar dynasty, seated on a throne accompanied by members of his court. The rim of the box is decorated with tiger hunting scenes, we can see horsemen armed with bows, wild animals, small constructions in hilly landscapes. The underside of the box is also decorated with a very pretty golden frieze of flowers, arabesques and peacock feathers on a burgundy background. This type of pen is called qalamdan, a box that can receive "qalam" (calames in French) a kind of writing quill made from a reed cut to a point. General wear of the decor and lacquer cracks visible in the photos. Note: collector's item. Delivery: 10 € for metropolitan France.
