This kilim presents us with a large decoration of three medallions, surrounded by a wide border. We find many reasons for fertility, and happiness, in particular: "hands on hips" photos 5, representing a pregnant woman pressing her hands on her hips.
Present from the first human artistic representations, it represents motherhood, birth and fertility.
It is found in many ways in simpler or more complex figures.
"The ram's horns" symbol of masculinity, male fertility, strength and heroism and righteousness.
From Tradition, weaving is done by women. The use of this pattern is intended to give husbands strength in all aspects of life. "Star" "The stars" symbol of happiness on Anatolian kilims which can be found throughout the border on a black background.
Due to technical weaving constraints, these stars usually have six or eight branches. on our model we find the star of Medes, with eight branches, as was the ring of King Solomon. The kilim is strewn with stylized flowers all over its red field, a symbol of lasting happiness. Many patterns that can make us think of a wedding carpet. The big difference between vintage kilims and old ones is the type of dyes used for dyeing wool. Indeed, from the appearance of chemical dyes, the women of Anatolia or Iran were seduced by the large palette of varied colors offered by this new process and they gradually abandoned the use of vegetable dyes. In some regions, this movement began at the end of the 19th century.
The colors of these kilims, originally bright, have faded over the years. The blues have become blue-gray, the reds, pale terracotta, emerald greens: lime trees or almonds, etc.
Today, this gives them a powdery and soft appearance which allows them to be integrated into most interiors. Not having been woven for commercial purposes, they remain a wonderful expression of local traditions. What keeps them authentic gives them an old-fashioned charm
