Achille Fouquier (1817-1895?) 8 “Rhodes 1855” pen drawing measuring approximately 18 X 24 cm, signed with the signature stamp and annotated with the situation and the date (1855), framed with a pass everywhere in marie-louise cream with golden bevel mounted in a Louis XVI period frame with beautiful gilding. This drawing shows us a view of the fortified port, animated by characters dressed in Turkish fashion (Rhodes was an Ottoman at the time. A tireless traveler, Achille Fouquier brought back sketches, anecdotes, and observations from his numerous trips. Whether from the Basque Country (he was mayor of Saint-Jean-de-Luz), Italy, Greece, the Balkans or the Middle East, his drawings taken from life are the testimony of history of these regions
