Object description :

"Marble Mantelclock Attributed To Ignace Or Joseph Broche Circa 1780-1790"
Mantelclock in crystalline white marble, the case carved with a nymph and a putto occupied in reading, symbolizing love.
The young woman with mannerist proportions is similar to the art of Falconet, but even more to small marbles attributed by recent research to the Broche brothers from Belfort: Joseph (1740 - after 1807) and Jean Baptiste Ignace (1741 - 1794). Particularly close to our statuette is the "seated bather" from the Cognac-Jay museum, and to a lesser extent another bather from the Lons-le-Saunier museum.
The plinth is oval with gilded bronze friezes, mounted on small feet.
The enamelled dial signed Mignolet in Paris. Joseph Mignolet or Mignonet was received Master in 1786 rue Saint Honoré.
