Object description :

"Paul Duboy (1830-1887) Large Bronze Sculpture Of Cupid H: 70 Cm"
Important 19th century bronze sculpture with medal patina signed PAUL DUBOY depicting an allegory of cupid holding the apple, here in its largest version made by the artist (height 70 cm X 25 cm wide) Beautiful composition featuring indecisive love according to the Greek myth which makes the apple an offering of love and which rewards the beauty, created by Dionysos to seduce the sublime Aphrodite. Hera, Athena and Aphrodite each think that this sacred fruit is intended for them. To decide between them, Zeus is obliged to name Paris, the young Trojan prince, whom they all try to coax. But he chooses to design Aphrodite, because she has promised him the love of the most beautiful woman in the world. Beautiful state of conservation, beautiful patina. Paul Duboy French sculptor born July 8, 1830 in Tours. Student of Jean François Théodore Gechter and Jean-Jacques Elshoecht. From 1849, he attended the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Between 1852 and 1883, he regularly exhibited works such as busts, statues and medallions at the Paris Salon. His last work, a bronze bust of the young girl Thérèse Girard, was presented posthumously at the Salon of 1887 Some of his creations were made in porcelain by the Royal Porcelain Manufactory of Sèvres, whose pieces are in the funds of the Baron-Martin museum in Gray. Her work Bust of a Young Woman was part of an exhibition in 1975 at the Royal Museums of Art and History in Brussels. One of his students was the sculptor Frédéric Fouchet
