Object description :

"Samuel Gives David The Royal Anointing, Attributed To Petert Sion , 1667"
Samuel gives David the royal anointing, oil on copper, dimensions 61 cm x 78 cm, with the frame 81 cm x 98 cm, attributed to Peter Sion, dated 1667. King Saul mistreating his people is rejected by God. Samuel is then sent to Bethlehem to Jesse to give another king to Israel. God seeks a king-shepherd, a shepherd who feeds his flock, guides and protects it; not a powerful one already well installed. Samuel struggles to understand that he is not the eldest of the sons of Jesse, but his youngest son David, the shepherd, whom God chose, the one who is in the field with his sheep. God commands Samuel "Get up, anoint him. It is he!". From that day on, the spirit of the Lord takes hold of David. This scene from the Bible represented by Rafael and Veronese, however, is not common in ancient painting.
Peter Sion is a flamisch painter born in Anvers in 1620 and dead in the same city in 1695 , member in the Guilde of Saint-Luc since 1636 .
