"Granada School, Spain, Ca. 1760."
School of Granada, Spain, ca. 1760. Saint Joseph, carved and polychrome wood with the original base. Provenance: Private collection, Granada. This piece is closely linked to the sculptors of the Granada school such as José Risueño (1655-1721) or more closely Torcuato Ruiz del Peral (1708-1773). The polychromy is original for the figure and the base, which also presents some elements typical of the second half of the 18th century, for example the marbled decoration. The Saint's slightly tilted head, his raised hands and his advanced foot suggest the idea of movement that defines this period.
