"Pokrov" or "The Protection of the Mother of God". Important Russian icon from the 18th century representing one of the most interesting and fascinating iconographic compositions for the complexity of the characters described. The scene sees the Virgin spreading her miraculous Mantle to protect everyone present, while Saint Andrew "Mad about Christ" indicates it with his right hand. One of the protagonists is the Deacon Saint Roman the Melod who, after the apparition of the Virgin, swallows a roleau and receives the gift of an extraordinary and melodious voice with which he has sung his praises throughout his life. . Saint Roman is represented standing while singing for the Sovereigns and in a sick bed where the Virgin appears with the roll to swallow. The Mother of God, in the central part of the Icon, is surrounded by the Archangels and a multitude of Saint in an attitude of supplication. The large size of the table allows a complex distribution of all the protagonists among the monuments. The artwork is in excellent condition with a spectacular range of colors.
