Text on the back of G. Braun.
the Civitates orbis terrarum (edited from 1572 to 1617) is made up of 546 perspectives, bird's-eye views and maps of cities around the world. Braun began working with Frans Hogenberg but was the main editor of the work, and he wrote the texts.
The six-volume work was inspired by Cosmographia by Sebastian Münster. In form and presentation it resembles Abraham Ortelius's Theatrum Orbis Terrarum.
Braun's publication set new standards in cartography for over 100 years.
