Soumaks are embroidery on kilims.
They are woven in various regions of Central Asia, eastern Turkey, Iran, and the Caucasus mainly. The word "soumak" certainly comes from the name of the city where they are said to have been created, "Sjemacha", located in the region of Kuba in the Caucasus. As light as kilims, they are woven and embroidered flat by nomadic women to decorate their homes and warm their interiors. Originally, they made them during the cold and harsh winter of these parts of Central Asia, after the planting and harvest season had passed. Soumaks are not real rugs but rather a kind of kilim, denser and rougher, they are not reversible, in fact the reverse always reveals longer wools, and are often used as table rugs or on top. of bed. Our model, with many symbols and ethnic motifs and covered with embroidered animals, is in perfect condition and has beautiful shimmering colors, especially this pink. It will delight an amateur who loves this type of work, which has become rare in such good conditions.
This carpet has been professionally cleaned and environmentally friendly.
