Rik Herman (1921-1974)
Neo-expressionist painter, draughtsman and landscape engraver in Brabant and Flanders. Belongs to a modern nomadic milieu, his family having moved thirty times. He too is always on the move. Pupil at the Academy of Molenbeek-Saint-Jean. Finds inspiration along the river banks. Creates a strongly constructed, linear and rigid art. Gives priority to the work of the material, hence the use of the knife and a generous paste. Works in the possession of the State and Province of Brabant, the municipality of Molenbeek-Saint-Jean and the Ixelles Museum.
