"Christ In Ivory With Its Frame, Early 18th Time."
Very beautiful ivory Christ with its carved wooden frame, early 18th century. Leaf gilded, with glazing beads (mercury mirrors). Openwork pediment with the presence of two elements of the crucifixion: ladder and stick (at its end, vinegar sponge evoking the compassionate gesture of a Roman soldier watering Christ?). Also vine branches on each side of the pediment. Note: only the velor is recent; two mirrors cracked glazing beads. External dimensions frame: 86 x 44.5 cms.
