Very beautiful Oil on panel (plywood) representing the castle of Castelnaud in Dordogne; It is signed lower right ELIZAGA, located and dated 1939 on the back. ELIZAGA is the pseudonym of Hélène Elissague (1896-1981), genre painter, portraits and landscapes; she was a pupil of Henry Du Sorbier de la Tourasse whom she married. From 1922, in Paris, she attended the Julian academies, the Grande Chaumière and the Sacred Art workshop of Maurice Denis and Georges Desvallières. Between 1930 and 1947 she exhibited mainly in the Basque Country. She was one of the major figures who contributed in the twentieth to the "revival" of their region of origin, by offering many works evoking the landscapes and the inhabitants of the Basque Country.
