"Still Life With Lobster By F Alexandre Delaunay Circa 1850"
Superb oil on canvas depicting a still life with lobster with its gilded stucco frame with the original gold leaf Pyramidal composition with a vase of various flowers (dhalias, roses ...) surmounting the natural fruits (cluster of grape, melon, pineapple ...) mixed with a lobster, the whole resting on an entablature forming a console with on the left a fabric with an oriental flavor thrown in negligee. This work is attributed to the Bordeaux artist François Alexandre Delaunay (1802-1890). No signature on the canvas but an inscription on the stretcher The artist is not listed in the Benézit but he is a professional painter of the Bordeaux bourgeois salons. This oil has been cleaned by a professional just like the frame whose gilding has been cleaned. This composition is an example of bourgeois painting from the Second Empire, circa 1850
