He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Toulouse, began as an illustrator in Paris at the start of the 20th century, during which time he befriended Charles Léandre and Steinlen.

Florane taught in Montluçon during the interwar period and opened a workshop, as specified on the back of the painting, in the Chesnot house in Montluçon, place de la Comédie. It could therefore be that this landscape is a landscape of the surroundings of Montluçon.
