Prix de Rome in 1864, he exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes français and benefited from numerous official orders for both churches (in Paris, Saint-Augustin church and Saint Laurent church, Senlis cathedral, several churches in his native region in the Oise) than for public buildings (in Paris, town hall of the 3rd arrondissement, Bon Marché, Hôtel de Ville de Beauvais) and orders for individuals (Château de Chantilly for the Duke of Aumale, Château de Neudeck in Silesia).
Museums d'Angers, Beauvais, the Petit-Palais museum in Paris have works by him.
Our drawing is undoubtedly preparatory to one of his major decor orders from the years 1880-1890.
