Neapolitan Santons: Jesus Child And His Guardian Angel 18th Century

Magnificent santons that feature the infant Jesus and his guardian angel, these two 18th century Neapolitan santons were recomposed in the 19th century and kept under a 19th century glass globe. The baby Jesus dress is beautifully crafted: a gold-colored silk dress embroidered with crochet flowers with four altered petals in turquoise and pink under a fine mesh of golden metallic threads. Slippers made of cotton threads sheathed in gold metal. The baby Jesus wears a bouquet of white fabric flowers and wax flower buds, a gold metal fleur-de-lis sewn to his chest, a golden metallic ribbon encircles his hair and a radiant golden metal crown serves as his halo . Above, a character carries a cross in gilded paper in his right hand, he is dressed in a beige silk dress (fabric wear especially on the sleeves, see photos). The two characters are staged in a setting of crumpled paper in imitation of rock embellished with bouquets of flowers and fabric leaves as well as natural moss now dried. This fine-sized composition remains under a globe with a blackened wooden base with rounded edges, a wormhole (now no longer available) visible on the front (see photo).
