La Gitane, charcoal and gouache on paper. Drawing signed lower right, circa 1930. André Dignimont is a painter, engraver and illustrator born in Paris in 1891 and died in Paris in 1965. French School. Closely involved in the literary circles of his time, he exhibited at the Salon d'Automne, the Salon des Tuileries and the Salon de l'Araignée, founded by Gus Bofa, with the aim of renewing the art of illustration. Dignimont also liked to evoke the "underworld", that of bad boys and girls.
