Auguste Majorelle (1825-1879) was a master ceramicist who held patents related to porcelain. He has designed numerous pieces of museum-quality earthenware, which have been exhibited in many world-famous art institutions. The mark "AMAJORELLE" is found on almost all ceramic pieces known to have been produced under the direction of Auguste Majorelle during his lifetime.
Very beautiful piece of museum quality.
Auguste vs Louis Majorelle.
Louis was only 19 when he was forced to leave college and return home in 1879 after his father's death, in order to help the Majorelle family's furniture and earthenware store survive without Auguste. Louis was very inexperienced at the time. He immersed himself almost exclusively in learning the art of furniture making, and it is unlikely that he had any significant personal involvement in his father's earthenware production. While it is true that Louis himself designed a limited number of ceramic objects during his own life. He no longer applies the "AMAJORELLE" signature used by his father.
