Karabakh is a region located in the southwest of Caucasian Azerbaijan. The designs of karabagh are varied. You can find patterns of roses (göl farangi) or like this geometric patterns. Karabakh can be translated as "black garden". The karabaghs are also made with knotted stitches. The best achievements of karabakh were most often of Kurdish and Armenian descent. Which is probably the case with this (Armenian) kilim.
Beautiful and timeless kellé format karabagh (head rug) with geometric patterns. In the center, an octagon on a gray background symbolizes the universe. In this octagon as well as in the four angles, zoomorphs of spiders are represented. Also, some hourglasses "translate" the passing time. A beautiful multicolored border enhances the field of the kilim in patinated and abraché colors.
Abrache: term designating a variation of tones in the same color.
Note: three small restorations of 2 cm².
