"Very Large Bust After Pajou Of The Comtesse Du Barry"
According to Augustin Pajou, very large plaster bust from the XIX Eme period representing the Portrait of Madame la Comtesse Du Barry and immediately embodying the Glory of the sculptor, the work and the favorite Du Barry of King Louis XV. This bust establishes Pajou's fame as a female portrait painter. The pension he received from the king was increased and he obtained a workshop at the Louvre. The countess Du Barry (1743-1793) ensured the distribution of the work. Pajou, the king's first sculptor, paints here a voluptuous portrait of the favorite of Louis XV, for whom the sovereign built the castle of Louveciennes. Madame Du Barry died on the scaffold during the French Revolution. Her marble bust is still on display in the Louvre, celebrating her eternal Beauty. Numbered print by the Louvre Museum.
