"Set Of Two Bronze Grilles Representing The Doors Of The Loggetta By Sansovino"
Set of two bronze grids representing the miniature doors of Sansovino's Loggetta in Venice. These original doors were made in 1733-1734 by the Italian sculptor Antonio Gai (1696-1769). This is a building built at the base of the Campanile in Saint Mark's Square. The doors represent the allegorical figures of Vigilance on the left and that of Liberty on the right. They are surmounted to the left of the Armed Peace and to the right of the Public Liesse. A red wax is considered the original representation before the final project of the great doors still visible in Venice. These miniature doors are undoubtedly souvenirs of the very fashionable Grand Tour in the 18th century. Period 18th century Usual restorations H. 26 x L. 30.5 cm
