"Wood Pannel"
The panel depicts one of the episodes of the Passion of Christ in which Jesus is assaulted, mocked and derided, where Jesus is flogged wearing a purple cloak and crowned with thorns since he was accused of being present as the King of the Jews. The theme of the mocked Christ, a man at his side hands him a reed to act as a scepter, has been the subject since the Middle Ages of many representations by artists. He is presented here, his wrists locked in ties, but his arms dangling, opposing his attackers with an expression of serenity.
