"Pierre Gaillardot (1910-2002):"
Pierre GAILLARDOT (1910-2002): "Ships in the harbour", oil on canvas signed lower right, titled and countersigned on the back, 33 x 46 cm Pierre Gaillardot, born in Saint-Florentin (Yonne) on August 2, 1910 and died in Saint-Savin (Gironde) on June 28, 20021, is a French figurative painter from the new school of Paris with Burgundian origins. He mainly represented vineyards and winegrowers as well as horse races, having often lived and worked in Deauville. In a rather expressionist style, his oil paintings differed from his watercolors, very characteristic of his time. Its stylized representation of horse racing perfectly conveys the rapid movement of a group of riders. At the Parisian salon "Comparaisons", he exhibited in the group of painters formed by Rodolphe Caillaux. [Ref. necessary] In 1966, he obtained the "Pierre Puvis de Chavannes2 prize, awarded by the committee of the National Society of Fine Arts and the City of Paris. A retrospective exhibition of his works was organized at the Musée d'art moderne de la city of Paris in 1967 (Wikipedia)
