Beautiful optical view enhanced with watercolor from the 18th century, representing the decoration of the Notre Dame bridge, taken from the rue des Arcis with the Petit Chatelet in the distance. These engravings in perspective, contemplated through a zograscope to create the illusion of relief. They were very popular in the 18th century. They are a testimony to the Age of Enlightenment. Our Print is sold with its frame. It comes from the engraver and print merchant Jacques Grabriel Huquier fils (1730-1805). He is the son of Jean Gabriel Huquier (1695-1772), also an engraver and printmaker. Jacques Gabriel Huquier, first worked with his father and in 1756 published engravings at Buldet. In 1758, he married Anne Louise Chéreau daughter of the engraver and printmaker Jacques Chéreau, the two men joined forces for three years (from 1758 to 1761) rue Saint-Jacques and together published prints. From 1761, Huquier published prints alone and maintained important commercial links with Spain and Portugal. From 1766, he edited wallpapers. In 1772, he moved to England where he died in 1805. From that date he would no longer practice engraving, preferring painting and drawing.
