Jean (François) Hick, Abstraction, Belgium (1933-2011) “Liège Nocturne” 08/27/1958 Jean Hick is a Belgian artist who very young was initiated to drawing and painting in a self-taught way. He also diligently studied music at the conservatory. His first exhibition was held in 1955 where he presented seven figurative works. In 1957 he met the abstract painter Léopold Plomteux who really introduced him to the world of painting and who allowed him to sell his first work in 1958 to the Museum of Fine Arts in Liège. His painting then turned towards abstraction. He was awarded the “Jeune Peinture Belge” prize in 1959. From that moment his career was launched and he participated in numerous artistic projects and exhibitions. The work presented is an oil on canvas, representative of its lyrical abstraction. It is signed lower left. It is countersigned, titled and dated on the back, “Liège Nocturne”; 08/27/1958. It is furnished with a "workshop" type frame painted in black.
