Jean PUY (1876-1960)
After two years at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, Jean Puy moved to Paris in 1899 where he works with the precursors of Fauvism including Matisse and Derain.
He was successful following his collaboration with the merchant Ambroise Vollard. Influenced by the various artistic movements of the early twentieth century, Jean Puy nevertheless developed his own style. He exhibited female nudes at the Salon d'Automne in 1907 before turning to more complex compositions in which color occupies a prominent place.
