Kouba carpet, presenting five stars of perfectly identical shape aligned on a cream field.
This beautiful carpet from Dagestan, Caucasus measures 120 cm wide by 190 cm long and is dated from the years 1950,1960.
We find this decoration of stars on two other types of carpets, the Lesghi knotted by the Lezghins people of South Dagestan and North-East of Azerbaijan, and on the Tchi-tchi knotted by the Nokhtchi women better known under the name of Chechen, but the borders are totally different for one as for the other. In the center of these stars, a stylized flower, flowers that are found abundantly in the borders. In the field, as in the borders, the bright and very contrasting colors bring great charm to this room.
The outer border is adorned with "medahils", stylized red arrowheads on a pale blue background.
On both sides, the rug ends in a kilim style without fringe on a cotton base, which indicates that this rug is not a mountain rug knotted mainly in wool on wool, but more of a plain rug.
