Deer, bronze covered with a green patina, Arthur Puyt (1873-1955), signed, probably published in the company of bronzes of Brussels. Arthur Puyt (Bruges 1873-1955), sculptor-medalist. Training at the Academy of Brussels, with the sculptor Charles Van Der Strappen (1843-1910). Student of sculptors Julien Dillens and Jef Lambeaux. Set up his own workshop in Forest, Brussels. Before the First World War, he exhibited his work regularly; in 1904, at the Triennial Salon in Antwerp (1904), a plaster statue: La Zélandaise, Sorte d'Église un jour d'hiver; at the Belgian Work Exhibition (1910), he won a gold medal for Head of Bacchante, The Blacksmith and Bust of Zealander; at the Cercle Artistique de Tournai (1912), he exhibited the statues The Thinker and Return of Vespers; the same year, at the Salon Triennal in Liège, he won a gold medal for the work: Loup de Mer; at the Exhibition of Fine Arts and Applied Arts (1915), he shows his Snake Charmeuse and Ball Player. Many busts full of character and portraits in relief. In 1912, the Colonial Department acquired, for the Tervuren Museum, the copper smelters at Katango gropue. He made this statue from a drawing by an artist who lived in the Belgian Congo at the time. After the First World War, he created various war memorials. During the inauguration of the monument, Arthur Puyt will be congratulated by the alderman of Public Works. He also created the Bouvignes Monument, in Dinant, where a soldier is represented holding the sacred standard against him, a symbol of the resistance of our combatants. The statue is installed on an elevated plane supported by boulders; it will be inaugurated by the mayor Wéry. A third monument for the fallen soldiers of Jehonville. The bronzes are cast at the Cie de Bruxelles, in Brussels. In 1930, he exhibited at the Salon du Cercle Artistique in Tournai. In 1935, he produced the Le Vainqueur trophy for the Journal Le Soir. This "Journal Prize" trophy will be awarded to the winner of the competition, at the Beverloo camp. The same year, Arthur Puyt also created the La Victoire trophy, which was awarded as the "Army Prize at Camp de Beverloo". In 1945, he made a medal for the 1st American Army. Numerous medals and plaques which will be executed by the firms Fonson and Fisch. Accidented by the passage of a tram, the artist ceases his activities; he died in 1955.
