"Oil On Cardboard Representing A Pyrenean Valley By Emile Godchaux Late Nineteenth"
Oil on cardboard representing a Pyrenean valley by the artist Emile Godchaux. Born in Bordeaux around 1860, he met with great success by selling his works in public places. Very little documentation exists on this painter. He would come from the family of Roger Godchaux and Alfred Godchaux, both naturalist artists. Emile Godchaux is very interested in the Pyrenees, but also in the Atlantic Ocean by painting on the motif of fairly conventional landscapes much appreciated by a fairly traditional bourgeois population. Our oil is in the image of his work, conventional, it is aimed at a public eager for tourism, and discoveries at a time when we are rediscovering the Pyrenees. Discrete signature lower left as often encountered. Quality cardboard from the Maison Sennelier in Paris in a 6-figure format. Bears the sale stamp of the sheepfold of Jay. Good quality contemporary gilded wood frame.
